§ 8-23. Discharges prohibited; exceptions.

  • (a)

    The discharge of hazardous materials within the city is prohibited, with the following conditions:

    (1)

    Disposal of sanitary sewage to subsurface sewage disposal systems approved under Title 5 of the Massachusetts Environmental Code or to a wastewater treatment facility.

    (2)

    Application of fertilizers and pesticides in accordance with label recommendations and with regulations of the Massachusetts Pesticide Control Board.

    (3)

    Application of roadsalts or other deicing chemicals, provided that such use is minimized and consistent with public highway safety standards.

    (4)

    Proper disposal of acceptable materials at a facility or site which has received and maintained all legal approvals as specified in the Massachusetts Hazardous Waste Management Act, M.G.L.A. c. 21C, § 7.

    (b)

    The use of septic system cleaners, toxic or hazardous cleaners, including but not limited to: methylene chloride; orthodichlorobenzene; 1,1,1,1 Trichloroethane; acids; and trichloroethylene.
