§ 2-283. Composition, appointment, term.

  • (a)

    Pursuant to M.G.L.A. c. 10, § 58, the cultural council shall consist of at least five and not more than 22 members, all of whom shall be legal residents of the city and shall have demonstrated scholarship or creativity in, or distinguished service to, the arts and humanities or interpretive sciences. A quorum shall be a majority of the duly appointed members of the commission.

    (b)

    The mayor, subject to confirmation by the city council, shall appoint all members of the cultural council for terms of three years. No such member shall be appointed to more than two consecutive terms. Notwithstanding the foregoing, nothing in this section shall prohibit the appointment of a member that had previously served two consecutive terms after having not been appointed for one term.

    (c)

    Upon a vacancy, for any reason, the mayor shall appoint a successor for three years in the same manner as in original appointments.

    (d)

    All members of the cultural council shall serve without compensation, and, for purposes of M.G.L.A. c. 268A, they shall be considered to be special municipal employees.
